As the Olympics, the most authentic of sporting events, kicked off, I learned a new word and fell in love with it: Gambiarra. Aside from the Brazilian smile, sustainability and the Amazon, Gambiarra was one of the themes of the Rio Olympics.
There really is no way to truly explain “Gambiarra” in English, and there are so many interpretations of it. My interpretation of the Brazilian word is this: you create what you need with whatever you have in your possession. And somehow it will all come together.
Whatever the situation is, it really will come together — with patience, belief, prayer and perseverance. And, yes, with whatever you have in your possession to create.
As Deepak Chopra phrases it: “The best use of imagination is creativity. The worst use of imagination is anxiety.”
